Our Lady’s win the 2014-2015 EP&N Swimming Gala

On Monday night we took a swimming squad to the EPIC to compete in the 2014-2015 EP&N Swimming Finals.  The team performed exceptionally well. The event started with heats in each of the events; we qualified for 6 of the 8 finals.  In the finals, April came fourth in backstroke, Lucas came second in backstroke; Lucy and William won their front crawl races, and in both the boys’ and the girls’ relay events, Our Lady’s came second (all races involved 20 competing schools).

Once the races had finished schools started to filter out.  The children, parents and teachers of Our Lady’s stayed behind to find out the result.  Woodlands were announced as both the boys’ relay winners and the boys’ overall.  Whitby Heath were announced as both the girls’ relay winners and the girls’ overall.

In the past, to be in with any chance on the main prize, you would have to win either the girls’ or boys’ overall.  It came as a massive shock when we were announced as combined boys and girls winners and the children were extremely excited to go and receive their gala shield.  They even managed to get the mayor to pose with them for their victory shot!

Well done to all swimmers; we are extremely proud of your efforts this year.  Keep that training up as we move into our next event on Friday 19th June 2015- the Wirral Finals. Keep on checking our sports news blog to find out how we do!
